Helen Westhrop : from the nelablighnopress

The Peacock Gallery

At the nelablighnopress ...
Helen Westhrop crosses traditional divides
Helen says: "After being inspired by the work of the late Peter Hay (1951-2003) the artist who founded Two Rivers Press, I began by printing using cut erasers; although successful I soon moved to larger and more sophisticated works. When I setup my own studio and print room I didn't have a printing press and managed with an etching press and a hand burnishing; I called myself nelablighnopress. Since, however, I have installed a printing press, with its required tools and type; so, I can undertake letterpress and small book making and have retained the name and continued to produce work mostly related to illustration and book production. Drawing on my ability to sew I discovered the art of Boro and Shasiko and have developed ways to print on fabric and incorporating embroidery, creating cloth books and wall hangiings. Allowing me to mix and match medias; crossing from western and eastern traditions into craft and back again."
