Robert Fitzmaurice : Of Geometry and Gods, Side by Side

Sandham Memorial Chapel

An exhibition of stone carvings, paintings and bronze sculpture that explores the potential of the human figure for spatial and votive expression In this free public exhibition the Reading-based artist Robert Fitzmaurice and London-based sculptor and architect James Dunnett present new work where the human figure dominates. Dunnett's stone carvings involve the play of light over planar forms while Fitzmaurice's work includes references to votive art from both Europe and Asia. Visitors will be invited to contrast and compare these approaches with Stanley Spencer's celebrated wall-paintings of World War I in the chapel, which is a National Trust property, where the human figure, the human condition and belief are depicted.

Sandham Memorial Chapel, Harts Lane, Burghclere , Newbury , RG20 9JT
